THE EXPERIENCE

Art director Dejha Ti and Civic Agency partnered with us to create a character-driven interactive experience for Amazon Audible and the Harry Potter series at NYC Comic Con 2018.

The activation began with fans selecting a vial which represented a memory from one of the main characters of the Harry Potter books. Following the vial selection, fans would enter the activation area, where they were greeted with magical scenic elements such as “spirits” made of fiberoptic cloth, and dozens of mood-setting video clips played back on transparent OLED screens. Fans would then take their vials and place them into floating dishes, which triggered different Audible tracks and custom video clips from the series depending on the character that was selected.

HARDWARE

Imaginex created software and hardware solutions which determined the character associated with each vial by reading the color of a simple tiny sticker placed on the vials. This inexpensive technique using micro-controllers and color sensors, compared to tiny RFID chips, saved the client over $10k in hardware and allowed us to go from conception to activation in three weeks.

SOFTWARE

We combined numerous programming languages and integrated circuits such as TouchDesigner, Python, and C to bring this experience to life. The color sensors, upon detecting a sticker, would stream the color ID to our main server in order to trigger the correct audio and visual response. Four stations allowed hundreds of fans to go through this experience each day.
