LED ARCHITECTURAL MODEL

AN APP-CONTROLLED MODEL OF CRYSTAL CITY

We were commissioned to turn a 3D model of Crystal City, VA, home of the new Amazon headquarters, into an interactive app-controlled light display. The key feature of the installation is a large architectural model, displaying every building in the Crystal City area. Each building sits atop a group of LEDs which light and change the color of the model. Imaginex and its partners developed custom control software in TouchDesigner that dynamically allowed for the grouping and customization of each individual building’s color. Passersby can visually see the current and proposed city by highlighting just the Metro Stations, Parks, or dozens of other categories and buildings.

TABLET INTERFACE

Supplementing the architectural display, a tablet allows presenters to select and alter the colors of individual buildings as well as groups. This gives clients an accurate and beautiful sense of scale for owned properties and future developments. When not in use, the tablet can be set to 1 of 3 screensaver modes that animate the display.

GLOWING AERIAL PANORAMIC PHOTO & INFOGRAPHIC TV MONITOR

Behind the architectural model is a panoramic aerial photo of Crystal City atop more LEDs, creating a glow behind individual buildings in the photo.

A single wall-mounted TV displays further reading and information of the buildings currently selected by the tablet.
